THE BEST BOUTIQUE HOTELS IN MILAN
THE GRAY - Modern and Stylish
It might be housed in a converted office on a side street but The Gray, with just 21 rooms is a modern boutique hotel delight. It announces its style on arrival with, of all things, a fuschia mattress/swing suspended from the ceiling in front of the reception desk.
The rooms are all individually designed around the themes of ebony wood furniture and ivory-colored fabrics and leather. Two of the suites have their own private gyms and two others have personal steam rooms.
The bar is s made of white glass, and in contrast the restaurant is all black - black lacquer tables and black velvet upholstery.
The Gray is perfectly located. This district, the Golden Quadrangle, is home to the best of the city’s already-impressive boutiques; Dolce and Gabbana and Prada’s shops are close by. The Duomo is at the end of the street, La Scala and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele are round the corner.
THE STRAF - Hip and Trendy
Located on the same street as The Gray, The Straf is cool clean comfortable design hotel. It’s a great hotel for a hip romantic getaway.
The exterior is vintage 19th-century but inside its modern concrete and black slate with scratched mirrors and gauzed glass.
The hotel also hosts one of Milan's most happening bars - The Bar Straf – which overflows with trendy locals and fashionistas. |

HOTEL BULGARI - contemporary luxury
When luxury jeweler Bulgari went into the hotel business, it did so in style, partnering with Ritz-Carlton and opening this discreet hotel at the end of a cul de sac, a short walk from the fashionable Brera district. This fabulous 52 room design hotel is situared in a large Milan town house, which dates back to the 1700s, and it has 4,000 sqm of private garden whihc back onto mIlan's botanical gardens.
The style, like all the Bulgati hotels, is bold and contemporary: black Zimbabwe marble in the public spaces, solid teak, durmast and oak in the intimate rooms and suites.
Beds are dressed with the finest Italian linen. Bathtubs carved in to a block of Turkish Bihara stone and luxurious Bulgari toiletries are standard features in all bathrooms.
The Hotel has its own elegant Spa with gold mosaic swimming pool and green glass hamman.
The hotel’s restaurant, with its floor to ceiling windows, overlooks the gardens.
